Barn Cats: Day Out

The barn cats continue to enjoy each other. For awhile, Tuffy (above) even started using the kitty litter box consistently. That didn’t last long. I think, at his age, it has more to do with lacking bowel control. But I love him so much, I don’t mind taking care of him in that way. It has, unfortunately, caused problems for other people, if they beat me out to the barn in the morning.

Grady, above, is loving barn life. He and Tuffy are identical in their sweetness and, at first, it caused some competition. That resolved itself.

Dan is always on the move, but doing well, and excited for his first day out.

Which is happening today.

He is able to explore the whole barn today, but I’ll put him back in around 3, before it gets dark. The Sanctuary where they live has a kitty door that locks and unlocks.

Hopefully, it goes well.

  1. Oh I hope all goes well. I do think it will! The look on Dan's face in the last photo lol. I wonder what he spotted.

We split a can of wet food daily among our three barn cats, to encourage them to come inside when the horses do. It works most of the time, even with 24/7 dried food.

Yes, extra forgiveness is needed for aging animals (and us). Tuffy is fortunate you are so caring <3

    1. I love taking care of the animals when they’re old. It opens up a whole new depth of relationship.

I love that idea of wet cat food! I’m going to get some and do the same.

I went out just now and I was calling Dan and looking for him in the hay, nothing. Then I went back into the barn room, and he was just chilling on the cat tree wondering why I was searching for him. 😆 I just automatically assumed he’d be out and about. He wasn’t. He gravitated back to the warmth and coziness. First day was a success. My concern was that they’d get territorial and not allow a cat back in the room, or force one out. They seem very much at peace with their arrangement.

    2. Oh, and they’re locked in again. I’ll unlock the door again tomorrow.
