A Love Letter Post for Cowboy:
I got a ride in on Sunday (above) and this morning before work (below). Can you say lucky girl? I will. DAMN LUCKY GIRL!
My farrier came by a couple weeks ago and noticed that Cowboy was acting off. He asked if I'd been riding him and I told him not as much because I've been training Leah. He said, "I could tell."
Yipes!
So, I made it a point, after we got Loki settled into the house, to ride my boy.
At first, on Sunday, my Cowboy was mad at me.
How can you say you love me when you neglect me for a month?
I love you, Cowboy.
No, you don't.
I do.
You don't.
Or something like that.
But today, he was back to his old self, and all was forgiven. He walked right up to get haltered for the ride.
During saddling, he did give me the evil eye and brace his neck when I went to tighten his cinch. I tried something new to see if I could soften him up--basically, I just bent him in over and over until he gave me a good feel. It took a bit of going in circles because he was bracing his neck so hard, but when he did give me that softness, it was all done and the rest of the saddling went GREAT. He was a happy boy and we had...
a GLORIOUS ride.
I love Cowboy.
It's good to hear Cowboy is a forgiving soul. He's such a sweetheart. I do believe they can get jealous because I've witnessed it first hand. my Erik used to get jealous of Dusty and I got the evil eye and sulk more than once.
ReplyDeleteYou have such beautiful places to ride and wonderful horses to share it with. You are a lucky girl!
Thank you. If I had your barn I'd put a bed in it and never leave! We are lucky to have the kind of trails we do so close to our home. I wish our property abutted the parks, but instead I do have to trailer over.
DeleteWonderful! I'm so glad your heart horse is healthy and happy. Looks like you had some lovely rides!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yes, they were beautiful rides, made more special because of Cowboy.
DeleteWonderful! I'm so glad your heart horse is healthy and happy. Looks like you had some lovely rides!
ReplyDeleteWonderful! Your ride looks like it was gorgeous, too. There's nothing better than a ride on your heart horse.
ReplyDeleteAmen! I don't take it for granted. Since his P3 fracture, I thank God for every ride.
DeleteGorgeous location for a ride. Yeah, it's hard to juggle time with horses, especially when you have a young one who needs consistency. But it is also nice to get a break from one horse in order to ride another. When I get tired of spooks, I ride Rock. When my body wears out from too much leg and arm usage, I ride Bombay because he just reads my mind and does what I'm thinking. When I'm in the mood for teaching tricks, I ride Gabbrielle because she's so quick to catch on...
ReplyDeleteThat's a great point. You're right, each horse provides something different. Leah is great when it's too cold or too hot for trails and I have an hour or so to train. She's also on stall rest and a diet right now, so out of commission.
DeleteIt's hard to find that true heart horse. For several years, I thought Fox was my heart horse. He was a great horse and everything but ever since I got Artax, I feel like I have a deeper connection with him than I did Fox.
ReplyDeleteArtax sounds like a great horse. I think we can have several in our lifetimes, each different. I've had two so far.
DeleteThat's how I feel about Beamer. :)
ReplyDeleteCowboy is beautiful and that ride looks like a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteCowboy loves you too, or he wouldn't be mad, or jealous when you spend less time with him. You two look great together, and you look so happy! Oh my gosh, you have the most amazingly beautiful places to ride!!! I am totally jealous...your countryside looks just like central Oregon, where we've been hoping to relocate to. That's been a long-time dream of ours...but, we're always torn between staying here, which has its' own merits and moving farther away from our "security". I really, really wish we lived closer so we could go on rides together. I'm so glad you got the time to spend with your boy. :) Aren't they just something?
ReplyDeleteWow, your riding area is fabulous!
