Everyone was sad to see the tree come down so soon, but we have to shift gears for the New Years, a new batch of guests, and a wedding this weekend.
Christmas itself had been so much fun. We made gingerbread houses with the grandsons.
On Christmas morning our daughter, with the help of her older brother, hosted a Christmas morning breakfast and tea.
We filled up on savory and sweet crepes, specialty french toast with homemade huckleberry syrup, cinnamon rolls, bacon, and a black tea with bits of candy cane and a candy cane spoon.
Honestly, we didn’t need to eat another thing all day, but we ended with our traditional cheese and meat fondues and gift giving.
I feel refreshed to embrace the New Year. No plans, beyond the wedding, except to work with the horses and maybe visit the barn cats more often. (They’re getting along great now and seem very cozy in the Sanctuary.)
I’ll take advantage of the slower pace to continue playing my instruments: piano, guitar and flute, and maybe even try to overcome my paralyzing stage fright. That would be a worthy endeavor for 2026, since it has plagued me for 46 years.
How about you? Any plans for the New Year?

Putting Christmas decor away is never as fun as setting it up. Signals a passage of time. This year I put Santa related stuff away the 26th, and left Winter Lights up. I grew up celebrating Three Kings Day. Now that my mom is gone I no longer celebrate, but our tree will still stay up until the 7th.
ReplyDeleteYou have a busy household!! We opted not to go out for an early New Years eve meal this year. Wed. is "grand dog day" so we plan to do a shrimp boil at home with our son. A quiet start to what looks to be an active 2026 for us.
Happy New Year to you & yours!
Happy New Year! How fun to have celebrated Three Kings Day, too. I had to look up what that is. Good way to keep the season going, even if you no longer celebrate it.
DeleteI kept up the lights, too, also the poinsettias, as well as a few wreaths. I’ll probably keep the lights up all winter to ward off the shorter, darker days.
Grand dog day! Your dogs live a good life! And a shrimp boil sounds super fun.
An active 2026? I can’t wait to hear all about it.
I organized and put as much stuff away as I could just a couple of days after Christmas, but the trees and decorations are still up. They'll come down on Friday, probably. As much as I love the decorations, I'm ready to have my house back. It's small enough as is, without adding the tree, stockings, gifts, etc. I was to having a come apart over the weekend because of the lack of space. I'm ready for it all to be gone. :)
ReplyDeleteI hope the wedding comes off without a hitch!
Unfortunately, my husband and I came down with something and have been sick the last few days. I thought I threw it off, but no. We are hoping it’s gone by the weekend. 🙏 I feel you on wanting the space back. That is my biggest issue with keeping the tree up. It takes a lot of space we don’t have, especially when we’re expecting a house full. Luckily, I got most everything done before the worst of this virus set in.
DeleteHappy New Year!
I hope by now you're feeling better.
DeleteOh my goodness that Christmas morning breakfast looks yummy!
ReplyDeleteI liked going to the IHOP in Spokane or Couer D'Alene and ordering crepes.
Today (Jan 1) I took down my decorations and tree. It was time, the needles were falling off. I leave my Nativity set up until the Feast of the Epiphany (aka 3 Wise Men day) before I send the Magi and their camel back to their storage box :o)
Ted got sick Christmas eve with that flu, he has had laryngitis for a week now, so a quiet Christmas here, my highlight every day is doing the barn chores . So far, no flu for me!
My husband also lost his voice. It has been 3 days of that. He’s a little better today, but not quite there. You’re lucky to have thrown it off. I didn’t get it nearly as bad, but being sick is never fun.
DeleteMy daughter outdid herself on Christmas morning and now we expect the same treatment every year. Haha.
