Life Since Adopting Beautiful Girl
Very encouraging! Keeping fingers crossed . . .
Thank you! So am I.
Super! Are the meds "long term" or just a couple weeks for a cure (if they work)?Bill
Bill, we won't know right away whether this is a cure or not. It has been a complete cure in many of the horses, but not all. I have my doubts about it being a cure for Cowboy because he can go a long time without the trigeminal nerve firing and then get into the sunshine and have it fire immediately. That said, it's an anti-seizure medication and it works by keeping the nerve from firing...which I'm sure is Cowboy's problem...so I do think it will work through the spring summer when the days are long. He doesn't need it in the winter anyway. Either way, we win if this works!
Sounds great! Fingers and toes crossed that this is the answer you're looking for.

Yeah! Sure hope this works!!
Brilliant! I hope he stays that way :)
Sounds promising. I hope you see long term results.
Hi Linda can you please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org?? My Appaloosa gelding has a mild case of this head-shaking issue, too! It's only present in the spring and summer, I don't notice it hardly at all in the winter. It is not as severe as Cowboy's. I've always thought it was some kind of allergy irritation, but being that he's an Appy I've always figured it could be some issue with his eyes (it's been 4 years since I've had them checked.) I hope this medication works for Cowboy! After dealing with chronic colic/stomach/gut issues with my mare since December...well, I can only tell you that I can completely relate to the feeling of trying to help a horse that can't tell you whats wrong and is in so much distress. It is the HARDEST thing to deal with.
Hi Linda,Just checking in here to see if there was anything new on how Cia and Cowboy are doing.
Thank you! It encouraged me to write a blog post about the latest.
