We are currently being battered by high winds, but they were predicted, and we prepared for them. The airport near us recorded 75 mph gusts.
My husband cut down a partially dead tree yesterday, next to our house, to make sure it didn’t come down during the storm.
I locked the horses inside the barn, and they made it safely through the night. We made sure the hay huts had new round bales to keep them down, as high winds have, in the past, lifted them.
Inside the barn, my husband parked the tractor against the barn door for extra support. We lost that door a while back during a 70 mph windstorm.
We haven’t lost electricity, but we do have a large generator ready to go if we do.
In the sanctuary of the barn, the cats are forming bonds and getting along much better, but I returned Dan to his enclosure during the night because I suspected they’d get a little crazy with the darkness and wind.

It’s been a real windy fall. I’m glad everyone is safe.
ReplyDeleteYes, here in the PNW we shattered historical records. It seems to be over for now, at least in our region.
DeleteThe unseasonable warmth in Colorado has been nice, but I'm ready for the wind to move on. Most of my outdoor plants went dormant a few months ago, but I have one honeysuckle still holding on to green, which is astounding to me in the middle of December.
ReplyDeleteYour barn kitties sure look like they're enjoying living the good life in your gorgeous barn room, and it sounds like Dan is going to come around soon.
I didn’t realize you’re having warmer weather, too. Dan is fully integrated as of this morning, after having spent his first full night out. They were all happy together this morning. Yay!
DeleteOh my, those are strong winds! Glad you were prepared and weathered the storm. I am surprised you have green grass and fungi. We are experiencing a very active Winter so far.
ReplyDeleteGlad your sweet cats are bonding so quickly. Tuffy is likely enjoying feline company.
I love your Christmas tree!!! Nothing replaces fostered memories.
That tree is pretty special to me. I’ve never known a Christmas without it, and it was really special seeing my grandsons helping to put it up this year.
DeleteDan was out all night in the room and they were doing really well this morning, so I think it has been a success. It took almost 2 weeks to get to this outcome. Tuffy is at least entertained with them now. I hope it keeps him going longer to have company out there.
Yeah, this green grass, flowers, and fungi is very odd for us. The price we’ve paid for it is flooding and windstorms. We didn’t lose our electricity during the storm, which ended at 4 pm yesterday, which is a bit of a miracle. It did blow over one section of our pasture fence though.
We had that high wind the day before you got it. 11 at night, and within 3 minutes the power went out. They had it back on at 1:22 am so no need for the generator. It sure brought winter with it though as the 2 days before that were warm and just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYay for Dan chilling out!
I have a silver garland from the early 70's that was my mom's, it is pretty fragile now so I rarely put it on the tree. When I was 17 our house burned down, so none of the things from my childhood survived except the precious memories.
Wind seems to be everywhere this year! We had another storm come through last night and blew away a full hay hut. My husband just went out to assess the damage.
DeleteThat is so sad you lost your mementos in a fire. I hope everyone got out safe. Memories are just as good, if not better. We lost a Christmas Village that we all painted together many Christmas’ ago. It’s probably tucked away somewhere at my mom’s place. They were good at never throwing our Christmas stuff away. We had a lot of family traditions which have somewhat faded over these last ten years with my dad passing and the family growing.
