Day 5, 100 Day Challenge: Water Crossing

Day 5 of the 100 Day Challenge

We took advantage of the melting snow to practice crossing water.  (Note to self, when taping with the right hand, have her move to the right.)  At one point in this, she got the rope under her because I was unable to tape and hold the rope up.  She started to go backwards, but then stopped and thought about it and let me approach to fix it.  I was proud of her.

Afterward, we practiced standing tied.  When she started to paw around, (below), I would get after her.  She calmed down pretty quick and I groomed her and did some TTouch exercises.

It was a good day.

  1. What a good girl. Good for you for getting out there and getting your days in! We actually had a horse who refused to go through puddles but would paw to break the ice off them and then roll in the puddle blanket and all.

I've come to the realization that I'll never do this challenge. I don't have the time right now. I'm dealing with an elderly dog who is twelve and not doing well.

    1. I have to have a fire lit under my arse because otherwise, I would not be able to work with three horses. Lol. Does that make me a procrastinator? I guess so.

I hadn't really tested Beautiful with water, but she seems to have positive memories of it. I need to look at an oregon map and see where the Beaty's Butte water holes are located. It seems, every mustang I know (which are admittedly few) paws at water and, generally, likes it. I imagine hot desert days, the water was a life saver.

  2. I can't believe how grey she's turned! I didn't recognise her at first. You might not know she was ever a buckskin, looking at her now. It looks good on her. :)

She looks happy to be doing what she's doing. What a good girl. Bella loves water too. Her HMA had a seasonal creek running through it. Every time I take her into water she splashes and gets me wet. :) Hasnt laid down with me on her back, thank goodness.

    1. She has really changed. She'll change again when she sheds her winter coat. I think wild horses pass down a general love of water, at least in all the documentaries I've seen of them. They're usually rolling around and playing in it. I mean, horses can swim naturally, so there must be a biological connection to water.

    1. It is actually warmer than it was, but the rain and general gloominess makes it feel (and look) colder.

  5. Beautiful Girl has come a long way. I think the 100 day challenge will be good for both of you.
