Home Is Wherever I'm With You

Not anyone who says, "I'm going to be
careful and smart in matters of love,"
Who says, "I'm going to choose slowly,"
but only those lovers who didn't choose at all
but were, as it were, chosen
by something invisible
and powerful and uncontrollable
and beautiful and possibly even
unsuitable--
only those know what I'm talking about
in this talking about love.
Mary Oliver, "Not Anyone Who Says", Felicity.

Everyone has different definitions of love, and there are some great ones.  Mine is knowing I'm home.  No matter where we are, as long as we're together, we're in that special place of security, understanding, happiness, and being comfortable in our own skin.

My husband makes my life, and everything else I hold dear, more beautiful.

For our anniversary this year, we took a road trip to Alberta, Canada--Lake Louise and Banff.  It was beautiful country--rugged and surprising.

We were able to spend five whole days alone together remembering why we are so crazy in love (or, in other words, at home together) and looking forward to the future.

  1. Happy Anniversary! How many years? That trip is on our bucket list -- and based on your pictures it will remain there, near the top.

    1. Thanks, Annette. Though it feels like we've been married forever, it was our 13th anniversary. I hope you get a chance to go, and if you do, be sure and check out their horseback rides. I'm not sure they were going when we were there last weekend. The hike to Lake Agnes Tea House was also a highlight of our trip. It closed for the season on Monday. We just made it. Beautiful place.

  2. You must have come across the border at Porthill? Just a couple of miles from our place. That area is so beautiful, looks like you hit some bad weather there though. Happy anniversary!

    1. Shirley, I think we went across at Eastport. I thought about you when we were there though. I have new appreciation for your place and photos! I wondered where you were in relation to our drive. Yes, there was bad weather most of the time we were there, but it didn't affect us at all. We loved every minute! We packed well, too.

    1. Thank you! Yes, it was. I don't know if people from there get tired of it or take it for granted, but being new to us, we were wide-eyed and amazed the whole time.

  4. I love that song! Happy Anniversary to you! October weddings are the best. My in-laws just had their 50th and John and I had our 15th. Good times! Love your photos!

    1. I love that song, too. I agree about October. It was the PERFECT month to get married and we've always been happy we did. The fall colors--the cooler temps--we are autumn people. We look forward to celebrating our anniversary every year because we LOVE getting out during this time and seeing the world change. We got married in Sandpoint, ID and usually return there every year to celebrate. It's one of our fave places in the world. This year, we stopped there on the way up and back. Every year we get wine from the Pend O'Reille winery to open at our 6 month anniversary and our year anniversary--so we had to do that, of course! Happy Anniversary to you and John!! I absolutely loved that picture of you two!!

  6. As a woman happily married to the best guy I know for close to 26 years, I can relate.
    Ain't love grand?

Btw, love the redesign; very sleek.

    1. Congratulations on 26 years. We're newlyweds compared to you. There aren't a lot of designs to choose from, but I thought I'd try this one out for a while and make my pictures larger. Some people don't like reading against a dark background though.

  7. Congratulations! Finding love and being satisfied with life is just about the best thing ever. So glad you made this trip - what a beautiful place! I'd love to visit there sometime. My hubby and I celebrated our 31st this past July. We've had our ups and our downs for sure, but we've made it and are content with growing old together. I wish I could say there was "being madly in love", but I'll just say there is friendship, companionship and mutual love. I really do think that October is one of my most favorite months too. It is so beautiful and the crispness in the air makes it perfect. Cozy sweater weather.

    1. I love October for jeans and sweaters--I'm not a shorts kind of person. Congratulations on your 31 years. There is a lot to be said for friendship, companionship and mutual love. It's kind of like October, comfy jeans and a sweater, as a matter of fact. ;)
